Futral reading Bowl team with trophy

The Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) Reading Bowl is an annual event that celebrates reading among elementary school students. This year, 10 elementary schools competed in the event. Students from each school read the same ten-chapter books before facing off in the competition at the Griffin Regional College and Career Academy (GRCCA) on Friday, March 8, 2024. Event facilitators read questions derived from the ten reading selections.

Futral Road Elementary claimed first place, Crescent Elementary secured second and they were closely followed by Beaverbrook Elementary in third place.

Beyond the competition, the event emphasizes the importance of literacy and the joy of reading. It encourages students to explore diverse stories, develop critical thinking skills and foster a lifelong love for reading.

GSCS extends heartfelt gratitude to Slices Pizza for providing delicious lunch for our participants and Innvision Hospitality for generously providing T-shirts for our students. Community partners have made this event even more memorable and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Event Organizer Tabitha Schwanbek, with GSCS Instructional Technology, said, “Congratulations to all participating schools and students for their passion for reading and dedication to learning. May their journey through the pages of books continue to inspire them for years to come.”
